Have you ever wondered what are those things that people wear during a race? Well, they are electronic number codes. They are commonly used in races held by schools.
They are pretty useful because they save time. In the olden days, people had to take attendance for races using a pencil and paper. Now that technology is so advanced, we can just run all the way to the finish line and your attendance would be automatically taken. Isn't it amazing??
Not only is it useful, it also teaches us life values and helps us in our learning. For example, when in a school race, some people might try to take the easy way out by cheating but now that we have this electronic number codes, no one would be able to cheat and they would learn to persevere on because taking the easy way out is just cheating yourself. They would also learn to be honest under the same circumstances.

Yes! I agree, although it is kind of weird to have the thing pinned to your shirt while running, it sure speeds things up! During our cross country, we were released at 10 instead of 11 because attendance taking didn't take up a lot of time. This sure makes the attendance taking for the race a quick one! :)

Actually The Bieb, I was not really aware of the tag pinned on my shirt throughout the race (though I was aware of shoulder cramps). I think that is an awesome invention.
ReplyDeleteI remember, once, back in primary school, whilst we were taking our 1.6 kilometre run, The teacher would print the timings on a tiny slip of paper. All of us would have a number and they would have to find out our timings by looking at our placing. It was so tedious and troublesome. In fact, some teachers even screamed at us while trying to take attendance. It was so horrible as we were all waiting, drenched in sweat from the run.
I think that this new invention has saved a lot of time, and throats.

I am glad that someone invented this thing. It is quite ingenius and really good, because then people will not cheat. It helps improves our fitness and health because we cannot cheat and take the easy way out of running. I will definitely approve of this invention. And I agree with Rei. I seem to recall seniors when I was in Primary 2 standing, drenched, panting and wanting to go home but being forced to wait in the sun while the teachers try to find the timing. It was horrible and I pitied them.

I think it is quite cool. This means that the timing of races are accurate. Unlike when humans time, there might be slow reaction time, which may affect the results. (We learnt this in Science) I remember when we had our NAFA in primary 6, our class results got mixed up, and we had to run again! Imagine the torture for me, especially when I am a bad runner and had to run 1.6km twice! Thank God that technology is so advanced now, and that I did not have to run the cross-country twice!
